For the Church to remain strong and thriving, there’s something we cannot touch, and that is the text of Scripture. If you question the Text of Scripture, you question the Man of Scripture — His name is Jesus. If you question the Man of Scripture, you question the work of Scripture, which is the Cross. When you mess with Scripture, it suddenly becomes man’s word instead of God’s Word. In this week’s video, Eric Ludy unpacks the reasons why we as Christians should never alter God’s Word. His Word is true, unchanging just like Him — there is no shadow of turning in HIm.
TRANSCRIPT
There’s a secret to the Church’s success. If you want to go the distance, there’s something you cannot touch. The Text of Scripture. You mess with the Text of Scripture, you mess with the Man of Scripture, His Name is Jesus. He’s the Word of God-made flesh. You mess with the Man of Scripture, you mess with the work of the Man of Scripture, which is the Cross. So when you remove the Godness from the Bible, well, now you can touch it and mess around with it and do whatever you want because now it’s becoming man’s word instead of God’s Word. When it’s God’s Word, you don’t touch it. You don’t mess with it because this is His Word. It’s true, it’s unchanging, just like Him. It represents His nature. He doesn’t alter. There’s no shadow of turning in Him.
And so, as a result, when you take away the Godness of Scripture, you know what happens next? The Godness of Jesus is called into question. When you remove the Godness of Jesus, you know what happens? The Godness of the Cross is called into question. Now, suddenly you have a man dying on a cross, but what good is that to us? It’s just a good example of a loving man who forgave people, but there’s no power given to you. There’s no atonement for you. There’s no forgiveness for you because only God can forgive sins. As a result, when you remove Godness from the Text, from the Man, and from His Action, you remove the essence of Christianity. So should we change the Bible to be contoured to meet the needs of our culture and the sensitivities and the political correct values of our culture? Over my dead body.
