The authority of the Word of God is being openly challenged today, even from within the Church. Though this has been true in nearly every generation, it is possible to have confidence and boldness in the timeless, eternal, and flawless character of Scripture. In this message, Eric Ludy explains the Canon Test (which God gave Moses to prove the authority of His Word) and shows how this “canon” was used throughout Scripture and is now applied in our lives. The climatic reality is that Jesus Christ has fulfilled the Canon Test and has the divine right to rule and control our lives. This sermon will leave you awestruck as you listen to how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament in perfection.

THE CHALLENGE OF KORAH
The question of authority that every generation must face
Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against
Numbers 16:1-3, 13-14
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod. And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers. And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you. And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you. And Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods. And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness. And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds. And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod. And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they

THE ROD
Of measuring, of discipline, of comfort and enablement, of kingly authority
The Rod Measures the House of God, proving it perfect, righteous, and of divine origin
In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south. And he brought me thither, and, behold, [there was] a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate. And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall show thee; for to the intent that I might show them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou sees to the house of Israel.
Ezekiel 40:2-4
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

THE ROD IS CHRIST
- He is the Measuring Rod, the Perfection of Righteousness, the Fulfillment of the Law
- He is the Word of God, profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness
- He is Grace, Comfort, and Salvation
- He is King of kings and Lord of lords
A Branch (a Rod) is verified as authentic by three crucial tests:
1) It must have arisen from the divine root
2) It must bear
3) It must bear identical fruit to the rest of the tree
NOTE: Jesus is The BRANCH, He is the Rod of all Rods, the Authority over all authorities. He Himself says “I am the root and the offspring of David” (Rev 22:16). He is both the Root of Israel (Creator), but He is the Fruit and Fulfillment of Israel (the Messiah, Rescuer, Deliverer).
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

Zechariah 3:1-9
Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest; And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD
Zechariah 6:9-13
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remains in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem: When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning. And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defense. And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.
Isaiah 4:1-6
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jeremiah 23:5-6
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness. For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel; Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.
Jeremiah 33:14-18
THE CANON OF CHRIST
The Divine Authority of the Word made Flesh
Canon – 1828 Webster’s Dictionary
Deduced from the Hebrew word for cane, reed, or measuring rod. To set, to establish, to form a rule. That which is set or established.
Canon denotes the divine right to rule and control. Canon is
THE DIVINE RIGHT OF SCRIPTURE
The Canon of Scripture has been established by the very same test. It must evidence that it comes from God, is in harmony with the rest of the inspired Branches, and bears identical fruit as the rest of the Tree. Each book, before admittance into the Canon was measured and tested, and then once proven divine, has become itself a standard for measuring and testing
The Canon of Scripture has a divine right to rule and control our lives. It is the measuring rod of righteousness, the final arbiter of truth, the teacher and governor of all life, the source of hope, comfort, and direction, and the ultimate Law and Judgment on all matters.
THE DIVINE RIGHT OF CHRIST
The Canon of Christ has been established by the very same test as well. He was measured and tested by the existing Canon, proving Himself against the harshest standard of perfection and prophetic fulfillment. He evidenced that He not only came from
He is the Word of God made flesh, the Canon of Scripture in human form, bearing the divine right to rule and control our lives. He is perfect righteousness by which each of us must measure; He is the final arbiter of Truth, for He is Truth; He is the Teacher and Governor of all Life, for He is Life; He is the source of Hope, Comfort, and Direction – For He is the Way, He is the Gospel; And He has become the Ultimate Law and Judgment on all matters; He is the King of kings and Lord of lords and He asks us to lay down our own scepters (rods) and allow His Rod, His Truth, His Life, and His Way to Rule and Control our existence.

So I answered and spoke to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord. Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
Zechariah 4:1-11
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him

LIVING EPISTLES
Becoming a bearer of the Canon of Christ
- We must be measured against the Rod of Righteousness and found wanting
- We must allow the Rod to expose the Root of Sin and uproot it in our life
- We must come under the rule and control of the Canon
- And just as the Canon of Scripture was penned by men carried along by the Holy Spirit, so we too must be “carried along” by the Life of God, doing what He is doing and speaking what He is speaking and out will flow the Living Word of God from our lives
- As the Word was conceived in Mary, and what was born was perfect and inerrant, not merely the son of Mary, but the Son of God, so our lives must become willing to bear the perfect and inerrant Canon of Christ – not the son of self-effort, but the Son of Grace, the Son of God working in and through us.
- Our lives must become the Word made flesh. This is the mystery of godliness, the mystery
hidden for ages andgeneration but now revealed.
